Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Ruth was a small toddler when her father who was employed as an carnival barker, died. The mother of the family had to perform tasks including waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was a student and grew up in poverty within Boston Massachusetts' tenement districts. She quit school in just two short years to pursue acting. The path was difficult to take. Even though she got an interview in New York posing as a still for a mystery magazine, no theatre jobs came her way. After working as a hat-check girl at a nightclub she resigned and went back to Boston. In Boston, where she worked during the late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time, was an usherette. She also studied drama and later graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
